Christopher Monteleone, 25, of Naugatuck, was arrested around 11 p.m., on Monday, Dec. 9, after police responded to an apartment for a reported domestic violence incident, said the Naugatuck Police.
When officers arrived on the scene they learned that Monteleone allegedly killed his girlfriend’s cat, police said.
Through interviews with both Monteleone and his girlfriend, it was determined that the cat’s death stemmed from a history of domestic abuse toward the victim and her cat, police said.
Officers located physical evidence, including the remains of the cat which substantiated the victim’s allegation that the cat had been killed by Monteleone.
The cat’s remains were transported to UCONN Necropsy Lab for an evaluation.
Monteleone was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals and is being held on a $100,000 bond.
Officer Jake Pinho was the lead investigator on the case.
